10 Reasons to hop on squarespace
Squarespace has been my platform of choice for a few years now, and you can often find me signing it’s praises to everyone I meet. After a horrible experience with Wordpress in University, I made the switch and have been on boarding all my clients to the platform ever since.
In fact, 90% of clients jump ship from Wordpress or Wix to Squarespace when we start working together.
While I’ve used Wordpress for years, both personally and professionally, I think there is a time and place for the platform. Most small businesses I encounter need something easy to update and visually appealing. Ease of use is huge! Not only to update content, add a page when you need to, change a button colour, or add a new section to an existing page. Squarespace allows all of these things to happen with no outside help, developer or designer. It can all be done by the client when they need to.
Here are my top 10 reasons to hop on squarespace
1. Ease of use
There is a learning curve for just about any software, platform or program you use, including Squarespace. BUT the learning curve is easy peasy, and it will take you no time to get the hang of it! The Squarespace platform is intuitive and easy to learn. And it updates as you’re changing things. (Which is called a WYSIWYG editor, meaning What You See Is What You Get). This makes it even simpler for you, because as you’re updating the button color, you can see it change in front of your eyes, so you can be confident that you’re making the right changes.
2. Simple to update
This is the number one selling feature for all of my clients. As a business owner, (especially an online business owner) things change quickly, and your website needs to be able to adapt and grow with you. If you can’t change content on your about page for example, simply add a new page for that new service you want to offer, or swap out the home page image or calls to action without contacting your developer or designer, then you’ve got a problem. That’s the great thing about Squarespace, all of those things are easy to do, and you can continue to change your website as your business grows without the help of anyone else.
3. Integrate just about any app
Squarespace has come a long way in the short two years I have been using them. You can now integrate all those amazing apps you use to make your business flow, like acuity scheduling, mail chimp, Eventbrite etc. If the app doesn’t have it’s own Squarespace block, you can still integrate it in your website using their code block. This is how I was able to add Calendly scheduling or convert kit to my site. If there’s an app, there's a way!
Although they have a handful of themes to choose from, the functionality of the site remains the same, and you can continue to use any Squarespace block, on any page of your site regardless of the theme you chose. You also have the opportunity to change the theme anytime you want.
Squarespace can be a little customizable (by simply adding your colours, images and logo) or highly- customizable by adding in custom CSS or code to your site to make it stand out. It doesn’t matter your needs, it’s possible.
5. Clean, modern designs from the start
It doesn’t matter what theme you choose, it is functional, clean and modern from the start. Each theme has it’s own look and feel, and it’s just a matter of choosing the one that suits you best. When I work with a client, I usually choose the theme for them, based on my research for what they need, and past experience with each theme. Some are more customizable then others, which can be a huge benefit depending on the client. One thing I can promise, it won’t look anything like the theme when we’re done with it. We will work to infuse your brand into the site, and give it as much personality as we can.
6. Mobile friendly
Did you know all Squarespace websites are mobile friendly to start with? Yup! You don’t have to do a single thing! This is more and more important as your audience uses their phones more often then computers sometimes. It’s also important because Google has changed it’s algorithm, and will give priority to sites that are mobile friendly. Some Squarespace themes even allow you to style and adjust the mobile settings so that your site is displayed perfectly (use a theme like Brine for this).
7. Add commerce at any time
Do you have passive income as part of your business plan? Or maybe you’re like me, and you have it scheduled into your business, but haven’t quite developed it yet. So commerce isn’t something you need right now, but will need in less than a years time. Well, adding it to your Squarespace site is as simple as adding a new page, and loading it with a few products (which could be digital, a service or physical product). There is no need to add a plug-in, consult a developer, or hire a designer, because it’s built right into your site! Squarespace has a number of plans depending on your commerce needs, whether it’s just a few products (included in your business plan already) or a full online store, they have you covered.
8. Loads of features
Features like: password protected pages, cover pages, adding newsletter or sign up forms, adding any block anywhere, customizing CSS or adding in some special code (to do fun stuff like accordion style text, or button animations)
9. Professional Help
Their help line is a huge asset to your business. If something is going wonky on your site, or a button or feature isn’t working properly. You can use their 24/7 support to help figure it out with you.
10. SEO and Analytics
Squarespace has analytics built right into the platform. You can see your daily, weekly and monthly stats, what your post popular content is, and where your visitors are coming from. There's even a place to hook up google analytics to get even more detailed stats (if you're a stats nerd like I am!).
Squarespace gets a bad rep about SEO, but it's simply not true. SEO starts with good content. There is no plug-in that will solve that for you, it simply has to be built into your site. In Squarespace you can also add alt tags to any of your images, descriptions to every page, and add tags to any of your blog posts. This is one of my favourite SEO blogs if you want more tips.
Squarespace has a lot to offer and is the perfect platform for any small business. With these top 10 reasons to hop on Squarespace, you'll be on your way to a new and improved website in no time.
